Jazz from Ascenseur and Orfeu Negro at 606
Miles Davis's music for Louis Malle's 1958 film Ascenseur Pour L'Echafaud is recreated by trumpeter Martin Shaw (right) at the 606 Club in Lots Road on 4 May along with performances of bossa novas from the film Black Orpheus by singer Jandira Silva.
The concert is part of the Sound On Screen Festival which explores the relationship between music and film and will feature moving images from the films as an integral element of the live performances.
Martin Shaw has played with musicians such as Sting, Natalie Cole and Cleo Laine and is a featured soloist with the BBC Big Band. His band will feature Andy Panayi, Leon Greening, Geoff Gascoyne and Sebastiaan de Krom.
Born in Rio de Janeiro, Jandira Silva (left) will talk about her personal experiences in Brazil and how the music and film have influenced her. Her band features the pianist John Crawford and Uruguayan guitarist Guille Hill.
