This week's revolution
The adoption of indie rock by latterday jazz types has, it seems, crossed fearsomely into the mainstream with the advent of Elew. His 12 April 2011 press release, perhaps oblivious to a decade of indie-inspired droning from assorted jazz players, proclaims:
According to his website, Elew has jazz credentials including work with Wynton Marsalis and JALC, Elvin Jones, Roy Hargrove and Cassandra Wilson, and won the 1999 Thelonious Monk International Piano Competition, "his mesmerizing piano theatrics even then hinting at the new musical paradigm he would one day create".
Elew tours as support on the US leg of to pop man Josh Grogan's world tour beginning in May.
