Under the artistic direction of jazz pianist Jan Lundgren, it runs 4-7 August in the town made famous by fictional detective Kurt Wallander. Jazz aficianado Krister Henriksson (the actor who plays Wallander in the original Swedish TV series) was last year appointed ambassador for the festival.
Ystad 2011 features a first-class international jazz programme including Pat Martino, Eric Alexander, Richard Galliano, Dave Douglas, Toots Thielemans, Jan Lundgren, Bobo Stenson, Paolo Fresu, Enrico Pieranunzi, Arild Andersen, John Surman, Youn Sun Nah, Stefano Bollani, Scott Hamilton, Herb Geller, Rosalia de Souza and many more major jazz names.
The Ystad jazz festival is reached with relative ease from the UK, via a 60-minute train journey from Copenhagen airport.
