Preview: Highgate Jazz with Soul

Brandon Allen's Highgate Jazz with Soul Festival brings top UK players to three venues across Highgate: Jason Rebello and Partisans are among the headline acts

The Highgate Jazz with Soul Festival returns to North London for the bank holiday weekend of 29 to 31 August. Festival director Brandon Allen (pictured right by Alex Hemingway) promises the best festival yet, with a line-up of star attractions from the UK scene.

Saxophonist Allen, a regular host of the Ronnie Scott's Late Late Show and a member of Kyle Eastwood's band, has booked a varied selection of artists. Pianist Jason Rebello (pictured below), Gilad Atzmon's Orient House Ensemble, the Martin Speake Trio, the Sara Mitra Band, the Charlie Wood Band and Partisans all feature. Allen and Rebello will also lead saxophone and piano masterclasses.

The festival programme will, rather unusually, take place in a different venue on each of the three days. Highgate United Reformed Church is the venue for Saturday's events: Lauderdale House will host Sunday's two concerts: Upstairs At The Gatehouse will be the home of Monday's programme.

The programme is as follows:

Saturday 29 August:
Brandon Allen saxophone masterclass
Jason Rebello piano masterclass
Martin Speake Trio
Jason Rebello/Brandon Allen Duo with vocalist Abigail Boyd

Sunday 30 August:
Sara Mitra Band
Gilad Atzmon's Orient House Ensemble

Monday 30 August:
Charlie Wood Band featuring Ben Castle and Mark Nightingale
Partisans
Brandon Allen Sextet with Abigail Boyd
