Eighth Norwich Jazz Party 2014

The line-up for the eighth annual celebration of mainstream and swing in Norwich includes Alec Dankworth, Jacob Fischer and Scott Hamilton

For the eighth year running, Norwich Jazz Party will return in 2014 for its usual weekend celebration of swing and mainstream jazz from 3pm on Saturday 3 May to midnight on Monday 5 May.

The Jazz Party will play host to regulars such as Jacob Fischer (pictured), Scott Hamilton and Duke Heitger, as well as 84-year-old Japanese clarinetist Eiji Kitamura, who will make the trip from Tokyo to Norwich especially to play at the festival.

The party will also welcome new performers including double bassist and vocalist Kristin Korb, New York pianist Ehud Asherie and reed players Aurelie Tropez and Robert Fowler, who will reprise his reading of Gerry Mulligan compositions reviewed in JJ in July 2013.

Other players confirmed to appear include Scott Robinson, Alan Barnes, Bucky Pizzarelli, Bobby Worth, Giorgos Antoniou and Ian Bateman. The full lineup can be seen on the NJP website.

Moving from its usual venue at the Holiday Inn, 2014's Norwich Jazz Party will take place at Dunston Hall Hotel, about five miles south of the city.

There will also be a jam session on the evening of Friday 2 May for those arriving early. Tickets are £185 for the whole weekend or £65 per day, and can be purchased at norwichjazzparty.com.
