SNJO and Branford Marsalis play Shorter

The Scottish National Jazz Orchestra is set to celebrate the music of Wayne Shorter this month, with special guest Branford Marsalis

Later this month the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra (SNJO) will play a concert series in tribute to Wayne Shorter, with special guest Branford Marsalis.

Directed by Tommy Smith, the SNJO will explore saxophonist Shorter’s compositions over the years, including Footprints, Virgo Rising, Yes Or No and Speak No Evil. Saxophonist Branford, brother of Wynton and son of Ellis, will be the special guest at all three of these concerts.

The first concert takes place at Perth Concert Hall on 27 September (box office 01738 621031). Glasgow’s Royal Conservatoire of Scotland is the venue for the second concert (28 September, box office 0141 332 4101), with the third concert taking place at Edinburgh’s Queen’s Hall (29 September, box office 0131 668 2019). All concerts feature a pre-show talk from Marsalis and Tommy Smith at 6.45pm.
