David Binney for Marsden

Marsden Jazz Festival brings David Binney, John Etheridge, Tina May, Laura Jurd and more to the Yorkshire Pennines this October

Tickets are now available for the 22nd annual Jazz Festival at Marsden, West Yorkshire, which will run from the 11 to 13 October 2013, with acts including David Binney, Laura Jurd, John Etheridge and Tina May.

As well as presenting timeless swing and mainstream from the likes of the Pasadena Roof Orchestra and Tina May’s quartet featuring pianist Nikki Iles, the festival’s “New Stream” attempts to offer festival goers something a little more cutting-edge; this year, pianist/composer Matthew Bourne’s “The Bourne Synthesiser Show” provides a set played solely on analogue synthesisers. There’s also an entirely improvised set from acoustic guitar-led group Batteries and folk-influenced jazz from trumpeter Laura Jurd.

An international highlight of the festival is bassist/composer Mick Coady leading a quintet featuring US alto saxophonist David Binney (pictured). Other artists confirmed include Italian guitarist Antonio Forcione and his trio and guitarist John Etheridge with his Trio North. Afrobeat group Ariya Astrobeat Arkestra and jazz-rock group Get The Blessing who feature members of Portishead are also billed to appear.

As well as ticketed events, the village of Marsden will also play host to more than 40 free events in pubs, halls and outdoor venues – the full programme for which will be announced over the summer.
