Dame Cleo's Music in the Garden

This June sees the 13th annual "Music in the Garden" at Dame Cleo Laine's Old Rectory Wavendon garden

This summer Dame Cleo Laine once again welcomes jazzers far and wide to her annual Music in the Garden festival, with this year's gathering including Liane Carroll, Alan Barnes, and naturally a performance from the hostess herself.

Now in its 13th year, the combination of top-notch jazz music within an English country garden setting will take place over five weekends from 8 June to 7 July, with concerts held under an all-weather canopy.

The Alan Barnes trio kick off the festival on Saturday 8 June, followed by the Liane Carroll Trio, who will be performing selections from the songstress's latest album, Ballads. The first weekend's programme also includes the Buck Clayton Legacy Band and Polymnia, a choral outfit performing a mixture of gospel, standards and film music.

The second weekend (15-16 June) includes performances from the David Gordon Trio and the Tom Green Septet (whose leading trombonist won the 2013 Dankworth Prize for Jazz Composition). Weekend 3 (22-23 June) sees Dame Cleo herself take to the stage, with the Warren Zielinski String Quartet and special guest Emma Johnson, as well as the Tony Kinsey Quartet, the Nigel Price Organ Trio, and vocalist Georgia Mancio joined by Nigel Price on guitar for Sunday afternoon's entertainment.

The fourth weekend (29-30 June) features Charlie Wood & The New Memphis Underground, Classical Kicks, which blends folk, tango and jazz, and Peter Fisher's Waltz of the Flowers. The final weekend (6-7 July) rounds things off with the Enrico Tomasso Quartet, The Legends, and a performance of "Magnificent Music Hall" by The Paper Moon Theatre Company.

To book your place at any of these concerts, call the box office on 01908 280800. You can find out more at the Music in the Garden website.
