Sunny Murray in London

Sunny Murray, legendary drummer with Jackie McLean, Cecil Taylor, Albert Ayler, John Coltrane, David Murray and others appears at the Vortex in Dalston, London on August 31 and September 1, with a Q&A session with Sunny at the first gig. He plays with his European trio of bassist John Edwards and tenor and bass saxophonist Tony Bevan.

The trio, which featured in the recent documentary Sunny’s Time Now has released two critically acclaimed records “Home Cooking in the UK” and “The Gearbox Explodes” (both Foghorn).

Sunny’s Time Now premiered at the ICA in London in April, and has been shown across European capitals. It features Tony Bevan, Daniel Caux, Delfeil de Ton, Bobby Few, Ekkehard Jost, Grachan Moncur III, Fritz Novotny, Edwin Pouncey, Tony Herrington, William Parker, Sonny Simmons, Cecil Taylor, François Tusques, Val Wilmer, Robert Wyatt and others and documents the life and work of a man with links back to Willie “The Lion” Smith.
