Norfolk & Norwich Festival to 21 May

Gretchen ParlatoSome way from the tokenism that characterises jazz content at many general arts festivals, the Norfolk and Norwich Festival (6 to 21 May) has a strong and relatively adventurous jazz programme including high profile names, some players rarely seen in the UK and several with a special appeal to those partial to European jazz.

Still to come (as at 10 May) are the Voice Project Choir With Nik Bärtsch, Trio Zéphyr: The Proportions Of The Temple (14 May), Charlie Haden's Quartet West in its only appearance outside London on Haden's current UK visit (19 May), Gretchen Parlato (20 May, pictured), Arve Henriksen/Joanna Macgregor With The Britten Sinfonia (20 May), and Jan Garbarek & The Hilliard Ensemble (21 May).

The editor was particularly impressed with Parlato's work on David Binney's flawlessly compelling new album Graylen Epicenter (also with Wayne Krantz, Ambrose Akinmusire, Chris Potter, Craig Taborn and a host of other luminaries).
