Poogie Bell at Charlie Wright's

Poogie BellCharlie Wright's is likely to be as true as possible this weekend to Ivan Hewett's trenchant description of the club in the Telegraph: "...sometimes I fear jazz might be becoming just a bit too clean for its own good. Which is why a visit to Charlie Wright's International in the middle of achingly hip Hoxton makes a welcome change."

In a booking coup, Charlie Wright's hosts the only two UK dates on the spring tour of legendary jazz-funk drummer Poogie Bell (sideman to Marcus Miller, John Scofield, Stanley Clarke, David Sanborn, Joe Sample, Stanley Turrentine and many others).

Accompanied by Michael Patches Stewart (t), Keith Anderson (s) and Bobby Sparks (kyb), Bell plays two nights, Saturday 30 April and Sunday 1 May.

Doors open 8pm and tickets are £17 in advance, £20 at the door. Charlie Wright's International is at 45 Pitfield Street, London N1 6DA. More from info@charliewrights.com, www.charliewrights.com. Tel: 020 7490 8345.

Other attractions at the club through May under new artistic director Jimbo Daoud include Gareth Lockrane's Grooveyard (19 May) with Alex Garnett, Mike Outram and others and US drummer Robert Garcia (25 May) with Julian Siegel, Phil Robson and Phil Donkin.
