Scott Henderson in three UK dates

Scott HendersonScott Henderson, in the early 80s perhaps the first guitarist to suggest a combination of the legato approach of Allan Holdsworth and the angular bop and blues style of John Scofield in one singular voice, finally headlines his own UK dates in May.

Henderson, formerly with Tribal Tech, Chick Corea and the Zawinul Syndicate, has often appeared on the European mainland over many years but in the UK usually only as a sideman (for example, with Zawinul more than a decade ago) or in workshops (eg, the Guitar Institute in early 2009, pictured right) and at special interest guitar festivals. He told Jazz Journal some years ago that the insufficiency of UK fees was among the reasons the UK did not feature in frequent European tours by Tribal Tech, the band he co-led with bassist Gary Willis in the 80s and 90s.

Henderson brings his trio completed by Travis Carlton (son of guitarist Larry Carlton) and drummer Alan Hertz to Band On The Wall, Manchester (Sunday 8 May) and Ronnie Scott's, London (Monday 9 May and Tuesday 10 May).

If he drops his pick, it's a good bet there'll be replacements for a month's season in the pockets of those at stageside tables. The new trio can be seen here on YouTube.
