Ellington, Cohen and Stern in Highbury

The Union Chapel in north London is looking lively for jazz in March, with contrasting appearances by the Swingle Singers (pictured) in Ellington's Sacred Concert, and Mike Stern and Avishai Cohen as themselves.

On Friday 18 March it's Come Sunday with the award-winning London choir Chantage and special guests the Swingle Singers and Urban Big Band in a performance of Duke Ellington's Sacred Concert plus the première of a new work by choir director Ken Burton honouring Sir Michael Tippett's five negro spiritual settings.

On Thursday 24 March, ESIP present Avishai Cohen launching his new Blue Note album Seven Seas. Avishai is joined by Shai Maestro on piano and Itamar Doari on percussion. More at www.avishaimusic.com.

Next day, Friday 25 March, also through ESIP, it's a sole London appearance for the Mike Stern band featuring Dave Weckl (d), Tom Kennedy (b) and Bob Malach (ts). They'll play music from Stern’s Big Neighborhood album. More at www.mikestern.org.
