Penguin’s jazz tome is in a new edition.

The press release says “Welcome to The Penguin Guide To Jazz for the iTunes generation.” What was The Penguin Guide To Jazz Recordings in numbered editions is now The Penguin Jazz Guide, subtitled “The History of the Music in 1001 Best Albums”.

Following the death of his co-author Richard Cook, Brian Morton has revised the entries that he and Richard put together and in a change to previous procedure, has chosen 1001 recordings that “all jazz fans should have”. He “shows how they tell the history of the music and with it the history of the twentieth century”.

The book is published on 4 November 2010, priced £20.00. Look out for a JJ review in the December or January issue.
