Titley Jazz Festival

Sheer grass roots enthusiasm has led to the creation of a new jazz festival in Titley, Herefordshire this summer.

David Masters was saddened at the closure of the Appleby festival and when Alan Barnes suggested Masters' adopted town of Titley would be a fine place for a festival Masters started planning.

The result is the first Titley Jazz Festival, 31 July-1 August. The festival takes place in the picturesque setting of the old Titley Junction railway station and facilities will include the steam railway, a bar manned by the Herefordshire CAMRA and a hog roast.

The lineup includes the Alan Barnes Quintet, the Stan Tracey Quartet, the Peter King Quartet, the Stan Tracey Octet, the Clark Tracey Quartet, the Art Themen Sextet, Clarinet Marmalade (with Tony Coe and Alan Barnes) and the Alan Barnes Octet.

Among the weekend's distinguished sidemen are Don Weller, Dave Newton, Andrew Cleyndert, Steve Melling, Martin Drew, Dave O'Higgins, Guy Barker and Mark Nightingale.
