Preview: Marlene VerPlanck's spring tour
The singer returns for her annual spring tour visiting 14 venues, including some of her favourites, across England and Wales during March
New-York-based singer Marlene VerPlanck begins her annual spring tour with a performance in the Netherlands, at Rotterdam’s Cosmic Surf Club on 26 February. After this one-off Dutch date she travels to the UK and an opening night at the Chichester Hotel in Essex.
VerPlanck (pictured right) began her career as an anonymous singer on radio and television advertisements for various products including Campbell’s soups. She soon established herself as an interpreter of the Great American Songbook, producing over 20 albums under her own name. Her 2016 album, The Mood I’m In, was recorded in London with a quintet of British musicians - John Pearce (p), Mark Nightingale (tb), Andy Panayi (saxes), Paul Morgan (b) and Bobby Worth (d) - and drew a five-star review from Downbeat.
