Preview: Draw By Four go on tour
Organ quartet Draw By Four announce their spring and summer tour in support of debut album Framework, with dates in England and Scotland
Draw By Four (pictured right), the organ quartet led by saxophonist and composer Jon Shenoy, embarks on a 20-date tour supported by Arts Council England this March. The tour, which carries on until early July, leads up to the recording of the band’s debut album, Framework.
The band - Shenoy plus organist Will Bartlett, guitarist Sam Dunn and drummer Chris Draper - describes its approach as “boogaloo to Björk, the classic organ quartet reframed”. All four of the musicians have a strong grounding in a variety of jazz styles from the traditional to the contemporary: Shenoy with bands such as Claire Martin’s Hollywood Romance, the Ivo Neame Octet and Fringe Magnetic; Bartlett with Jim Mullen and Salena Jones; Dunn with singer Judy Carmichael and fellow guitarist Howard Alden; Draper with Clare Teal and Kyle Eastwood. As a quartet the four plan to deliver a mix of Shenoy’s groove-based originals, ballads and “avant-pop”.
The tour also includes a suite of compositions written in response to paintings by three British painters: Winifred Knights, JMW Turner & Gill Holloway. In the spirit of jazz and innovation Draw By Four promise to “encourage the audience to enjoy an enhanced visual experience – marrying the works of the above artists with the music”.
