Preview: This Joint Is Jumpin'

Fats Waller's music comes to London in April courtesy of the world premiere of a new production, This Joint Is Jumpin', at The Other Palace Studio

One of London’s newest theatres, The Other Palace Studio, brings This Joint Is Jumpin’ to the city from 4 - 15 April 2017. This Joint Is Jumpin’ will fuse live jazz, tap dancing and storytelling to create a new interpretation of Fats Waller’s music, including Waller classics such as Ain’t Misbehavin’, Black And Blue and Honeysuckle Rose.

This Joint Is Jumpin’ is produced by Hoagy B. Carmichael, son of composer Hoagy Carmichael, and directed by Patrice Miller. It stars Lillias White (whose previous appearances include Dreamgirls, The Life and Netflix’s The Get Down) in her London debut. British actor Samuel Anderson (Doctor Who, Gavin And Stacey, Emmerdale) plays the host of the rent party. Tap dancers Michela Marino Lerman (who also choreographs the show) and Joseph Wiggan will also be in the cast. Vocalist Michael Mwenso (pictured right) - known to jazz fans from his years on the UK scene - will perform with his band The Shakes and takes on the job of musical director.

The Other Palace is the newest addition to Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Really Useful Theatres Group and takes its name from its situation less than 100 yards from Buckingham Palace and close to the Victoria Palace. Formerly the St. James Theatre, the venue will officially open its doors under its new name in February 2017.

Performances of This Joint Is Jumpin’ will take place on Tuesday to Saturday evenings at 8.00pm. There will also be Saturday matinees at 3.00pm. Tickets are £20-£30.
