Preview: Nigel Price hits the road

Guitarist Nigel Price announces an extensive tour with his organ trio and quartet, playing over 50 dates in England, Scotland and Wales from August to December

Already one of the hardest-working guitarists in British jazz, Nigel Price (pictured right by John Watson) has organised an extraordinarily comprehensive roster of 50+ UK dates through the coming months with his organ trio and quartet. The tour begins at Ronnie Scott’s 26 August and moves on to venues around the country to the end of December. Nigel’s band variously features Ross Stanley (Hammond organ), Matt Home (drums) and Alex Garnett and Vasilis Xenopoulos (tenor saxophone).

Reviewing Price’s album Hit The Road in Jazz Journal December 2014, Mark Gardner highlighted Price’s commitment to bebop when he noted that Price now owns Charlie Christian’s favourite chair from Minton’s Playhouse (and wrote a tune for it, Hot Seat). He described Hit The Road as “a most attractive, musically intelligent and swinging recital”.
