The Herts Jazz Festival announces its line-up for the 2016 edition at Welwyn Garden City's Hawthorne Theatre, including Tim Garland and Gilad Atzmon

Herts Jazz has announced the line-up for its sixth Herts Jazz Festival, taking place on 16-18 September at the Hawthorne Theatre, Welwyn Garden City.

The "weekend of jazz for all" features Tim Garland’s Quartet (pictured right), Gilad Atzmon with Strings and a Mingus/Monk Big Band tribute headlining Friday, Saturday and Sunday respectively. Big names from the jazz world feature throughout the weekend, including Julian Joseph, Keith Tippett, The Printmakers, Gerd Dudek, Laurie Cottle and Derek Nash’s Picante.

The festival will continue with the format of previous years, which has proved to be popular with fans. The programme includes free-of-charge sessions in the foyer during the lunch and dinner intervals and after hours. This year's free sessions feature stars from the British jazz scene such as Nigel Price, Bryan Spring and David Newton.

The festival is again being supported by Arts Council England. Festival director Clark Tracey said “It is great for us to be able to present such a prestigious collection of the best in jazz here in Welwyn Garden City. Our festival-goers know that they are going to see a great variety of jazz styles from established stars and some new faces. That’s what the Herts Jazz Festival is all about!”
