Wavendon weekends

The Old Rectory Gardens in Wavendon are once again host to Music In The Garden, the summer concert series presented by the Dankworths. Despite the recent passing of the head of the family the event is to go ahead under the leadership of Dame Cleo. Once again, in keeping with John Dankworth's 'all-music' philosophy, jazz is at the core of a stylistically wide-ranging programme.

The first weekend features the Darius Brubeck Quartet (19 June), Jacqui Dankworth & Memphis-born pianist and singer Charlie Wood (19 June) and the
Johnny Dankworth 7 led by Eddie Harvey with Dave Green, Tony Kinsey, Jimmy Hastings, Frank Griffith, Henry Lowther and Chris Gower and featuring guests Frank Holder and Cleo Laine (20 June).

The following weekend it's John Horler, Sam Mayne, Chris Laurence and Spike Wells (26 June), The Bone Supremacy, with Ian Bateman, Adrian Fry, Andy Flaxman and Chris Gower (26 June) and Menuhin & Grappelli Remembered, with Peter Fisher & Chris Garrick (27 June).

On the third weekend Bob Wilber pays tribute to JD, with Richard Busiakiewicz, Dave Green and Bobby Worth (3 July), followed by the Dixieland Allstars, with Enrico Tomasso, Roy Williams, Trevor Whiting, Nils Solberg, Colin Good, Jerome Davies and Richard Pite (3 July), Black Umfolosi 5, acappella and dance
group from Zimbabwe (4 July) and JD's Million Dollar Collection performed by Alec Dankworth's new band (4 July).

Seven days later, it's the turn of Mark Nightingale, Graham Harvey, Laurence Cottle and Ian Thomas (10 July), It's A Family Affair, with Cleo Laine, Alec Dankworth, Jacqui Dankworth, Emily Dankworth, John Horler, Mike Smith, Mark Nightingale, Chris Allard and Mark Lockhart (10 July) and More Moore!, a musical portrait of Dudley Moore with James Pearson, Arnie Somogyi, Chris Dagley and Sam Mayne (11 July).

The final weekend has Karen Sharp, Nikki Iles, Dave Green and Steve Brown (17 July) and a festival finale with the Chamber Ensemble of London in a programme including works by Mozart, Byrd, Paganini, Britten and Dankworth (17 July).
