ECP announces the Contemporary Jazz Cruise, the latest in its comprehensive cruise portfolio, with Pat Metheny, Marcus Miller, Robert Glasper and many more

Entertainment Cruise Productions, LLC (ECP) has announced the debut of the Contemporary Jazz Cruise, a luxury full-ship charter featuring a lineup of the world's best-known jazz artists.

Musicians including the Pat Metheny Trio, Marcus Miller, Terence Blanchard, Gregory Porter, Dianne Reeves, Joshua Redman, Robert Glasper Trio, Chucho Valdes (pictured right), The Bad Plus, Lalah Hathaway, Marcus Miller Band and Candy Dulfer will appear: a line-up that has received over 40 Grammy Awards between them. The cruise will also feature comedian Alonzo Bodden, with additional performers to be added in the near future.

The Contemporary Jazz Cruise will sail from 4 to 11 February 2017. Departing Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the cruise will travel to the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Haiti aboard the liner Celebrity Summit.

Marcus Miller, who will be the cruise's host and music director, said “The Contemporary Jazz Cruise features highly respected and renowned jazz performers who are continuing to define what is new and hip in the world of jazz while retaining and respecting those elements of the genre that have made jazz one of the most enduring music genres throughout the world."

Michael Lazaroff, executive director of ECP, added “For more than 15 years, Entertainment Cruise Productions has produced over 65 cruise events, earning its place as the undisputed world leader in live entertainment at sea. But we have never forgotten what brought us to the party . . . jazz. The Contemporary Jazz Cruise is the next step in our mission to offer the very best jazz at sea."

Fares start at $2,250 per person and include tickets to all concerts, all meals, special events throughout the voyage and all port charges.

The Contemporary Jazz Cruise marks the third franchise in ECP’s successful cruise series, joining The Jazz Cruise and The Smooth Jazz Cruise. All three cruises depart early 2017 from Fort Lauderdale, Florida aboard the liner Celebrity Summit.

The Smooth Jazz Cruise takes place 21-28 January 2017 and stars Candy Dulfer, Keiko Matsui, Kirk Whalum and Marcus Miller (pictured left by Selcuk Polat) among others. All state rooms for this event have been reserved but a waiting list is in operation.

The 2017 Jazz Cruise takes place from 28 January to 4 February and will feature an extensive array of artists from around the world, including John Pizzarelli, Eliane Elias, Randy Brecker and Mike Stern - with Marcus Miller again acting as host. The story of The Jazz Cruise, beginning on the SS Norway in the early 80s, was told here by Keith McDowall for Jazz Journal.

ECP have also offered other themed cruises, including The 80s Cruise, The Gospel Cruise and The Star Trek Cruise as well as jazz cruises in the Mediterranean.
