Vijay Iyer for London in February 2013
Pianist Vijay Iyer and his trio bring their arithmetically complex vision of jazz rhythm to the London Southbank Centre next February
Pianist and composer Vijay Iyer is due to play with his acclaimed trio at the Purcell Room of the Southbank Centre, London, on 5 February next year.
Iyer, who was interviewed in the July 2012 edition of Jazz Journal, was nominated for a Grammy in 2011, along with bandmates Marcus Gilmore on drums and Stephan Crump on bass. Their concert at the Southbank Centre is expected to demonstrate the complex, numerically advantaged rhythms they have become known for.
Described by The New Yorker as "extravagantly gifted" and The Guardian as "way up the A-list", Iyer and his long-time collaborators Gilmore and Crump had great success with their album Historicity, released in 2009. This was followed up by their 2012 album Accelerando, which features in the Jazz Journal 2012 record of the year poll (to be published 20 December).
